The Rawhiders drill team travels throughout Idaho and performs at various competitions. The competitions consist of five events which include a parade, freestyle riding, compulsory, short program, and a 4-man team performance.

Parade
The parade performance must include at least four maneuvers that are completed at least twice in a 400' space. The riders must be moving forward at all times. This is performed to music and riders have the option of wearing costumes.

Freestyle
The freestyle is the opportunity for the Rawhiders to reveal their inner talent and construct a pattern that uniquely suits their particular riding style. The music is picked by the group, and the duration of the melody must last for ten minutes, while not exceeding twelve minutes.

Compulsory
The compulsory event is the same for every horse team involved in the competition. They ride to the same music, and they do the same drill in a 100' by 150'' space. It is an 8-man team. The horses cannot move forward and must continue to move in a canter. The instructor, Myrn Gosse, describes this maneuver as "ballet on horseback." The drill team is given directions instructing them when and where to trot. The team is also told when to change speed. The compulsory routine changes every two years. The music format is distributed from the Northwest Drill Team Association. The duration of this event is limited to less than six minutes.

Short Program
The short program is also administered by the Northwest Drill Team Association. In this event, the team is supplied with six to eight different maneuvers to choose from. The team has to combine these maneuvers and add music to them. This event is also completed within six minutes or less. In 2002, the Rawhiders did their presentation to a combination of Elvis Presley tunes, and to add a more personal touch, they added capes, dark glasses, and side burns to the performance.

4-Man Team
The 4-man team event is made up of four riders who compete in the freestyle event. They create a presentation that is performed in a 100' by 150' space, and that is limited to four minutes in length. This event is judged on theme which includes music and costume. It is also judged on the degree of difficulty. Each year the team rides to different music and costumes.  This event allows for a lot of creativity.

If the competition is not a state function, the events may vary.
